An esthetician license doesn't usually allow you to do reflexology and massage. You need to check the specifics of the state you are licensed in, but typically an esthetician is limited to only touching the upper part of the body (unless performing hair removal) If you are not sure where to look try a search on "state board of cosmetology " or "business and professions code. " It can be a bit tricky to find the specifics. For example - here's what California State regs say: (1) Skin care is any one or more of the following practices: (A) Giving facials, applying makeup, giving skin care, removing superfluous hair from the body of any person by the use of depilatories, tweezers or waxing, or applying eyelashes to any person. (B) Beautifying the face, neck, arms, or upper part of the human body, by use of cosmetic preparations, antiseptics, tonics, lotions, or creams. (C) Massaging, cleaning, or stimulating the face, neck, arms, or upper part of the human body, by means of the hands, devices, apparatus, or appliances, with the use of cosmetic preparations, antiseptics, tonics, lotions, or creams. If you are interested in therapeutic massage you should check and see what your state (or city/ county) require in order to perform massage. Some states have very stringent requirements, others have no regulations in place. Some may allow you to perform reflexology without a massage license, but not allow you to perform full body massage without an appropriate license. HTH EE educatedesthetician.com |
